Shimla Hill Station
Simla one of India most famous hill stations, derives its name from Goddess Shyamala, an incarnation of Goddess Kali, the deity of power. Simla is also referred as the "Queen of Hills" due to its most spectacular and beautiful landscapes. Decorated with lofty snow peaks, deep gorges, lush green valleys, fast flowing rivers, enchanting mountain lakes, flower bedecked meadows, beautiful temples and monasteries steeped in time the place 'Simla' is a traveler's paradise. Stupendous hill resort is perfect for holidaying with family and friends. The gifts of nature in terms of beauty and bounty along with the creations of human kind in terms of the colonial and cultural structures Simla is molded as the great recreation away from the city life. One of the most popular and biggest hill stations of North India, Simla offers picture-perfect views of snow-capped mountain ranges.
Simla was once a summer capital of British Empire that quickly became a popular hill station and most preferred tourists destinations in Himachal Pradesh. Simla witness large number of tourists round the year across the world. The natural beauty of the 2159 m high Simla makes it one of the most popular hill resorts in the country. The terrific tranquility attracts thousands of tourists year after year. The entire town of Simla is covered with forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak and experiences pleasing summers and cold, snowy winters. Simla has been endowed with all the natural bounties and has a beautiful location, surrounded by green hills and snow clad peaks.
In 1822, the first British summer home was constructed by Scottish civil servant Charles Pratt Kennedy. Simla became the summer capital of the British Raj during the latter half of the 19th century and the soldiers of the British army, merchants and civil servants dropped in here to get relief from the scorching heat of the plains.
Jakhu at an altitude of 2,455 meters, Prospect Hill 2,328 meters, Observatory Hill 2,350 meters, Elysigim Hill 2,466 meters and Summer Hill 2,300 meters are the some of the important and beautiful peaks of the hill station. The adventure tours in Simla are skiing, trekking, fishing and golfing are also offered in the hill station.

The snow clad Himalayas are visible from here. The town is surrounded by an ever green cover of pine/fir (Devdaar) trees. Summers are cool to warmish and winters are cold. Snowfall occurs in winter months of December-February.

Fairs and festivals are the highlights of Simla tourism. The awesome British populations of the yester years make Christmas a fanfare of the valley. The most significant event in the valley is the Summer Festival organized by the Government in the month of June, which showcases the rich culture and tradition of the
Himalayan states. This largest fun fare of the hilly states grabs people with the colorful performances of folk dancers and other activities based on the rich rustic tradition.
Kali Bari Mandir, Ram Mandir, Krishan Mandir (Gunj), Jakhoo Mandir located at a height - good for a small trek, Taradevi mandir can be seen from the city which is located isolated in an uninhabited forest one can enjoy 4-5 hour weekend trekking, Sankat Mochan Mandir, Gurudwara near bus stand, Gurudwara in Chotta Shimla and Sanjauli, mosque in Lower Bazaar and Krishan Nagar are some of the sacred places in the capital of Himachal Pradesh.
Ranging from a maximum of 28°C and a minimum of 15°C temperature in the town summer is moderate from April to June. Summer temperatures are mild and light woolens/cottons are recommended. In winter season lasting from November to February with variation of temperature maximum of 8°C and a low of 0°C or even low. Due to the chilly winds from the upper Himalayas winters are cold. Between April to mid-July and mid-September to the end of October, this is the peak season and the best time to visit. An average annual rainfall of 166 cms is received in the city.
To reach the hill station

By Air: At a distance of 23 kilometers, Jubbarhatti the air port if the city is located. Chandigarh, Kullu and Delhi are some of the major cities that are connected to Simla through planes.

By Road: All major cities in India are well connected to Simla by a fine network of roads.

By Rail: Located at a distance of 96 kilometers from Shimla is the nearest railhead is Kalka. There are no direct trains to Simla.
