Anamudi
Anamudi is the highest peak in the Western Ghats. The hills are ideal places for trekking and camping. The Eravikulam National Park, in the north of Anamudi, is a major attraction. It is also the ideal place for wildlife travelers and nature lovers. It is a pilgrim centre, where devotees come to worship sage Agasthyar. Agasthyar was a Dravidian sage, and is considered to be one of the seven Rishis (Saptarishi) of Hindu mythology. A haven of rare herbs and medicinal plants, its slopes are a breathtaking sight when they transform into colourful glades of the 'Neelakurinji', a flower which blooms only once in twelve years.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
The beautiful backwaters of Devikulam Taluka as back ground of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary situated in the district of Idukki. Located in the rain shadow area of the Western Ghats, unlike other sanctuaries in Kerala, Chinnar gets only 48 days of rain every year. The endangered giant grizzled squirrel in India along with the tigers, elephant, bonnet macaques, gaur, Kraits, spotted deer, spectacled cobras, sambar, turtles, rabbit, hanuman monkey, vipers, little cormorants, darters, black eagles and peacocks are housed in the wild park. There are 965 species of flowering plants in the sanctuary Ecoregions of the sanctuary comprise mostly grassland and wet grasslands vegetation and some South Western Ghats montane rain forests and high shola at the higher western elevations. The Chinnar Wildlife Park got the distinction of being declared as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1984.
Devikulam
Devikulam is one of the popular hill stations located near by Munnar. This hill station is a nature lovers' paradise. Mother Nature has been generous to this scintillating hill station. Devikulam hill station is an ideal hill station for the peace seekers to idle away their time in the lap of green. The Hindu deity lord Rama's wife Sita once came to this place and bathed in the lake. Since then, this hill resort is known as Devikulam (the lake of Goddess). The most significant thing about the lake is that it has a fountain spring that gives healthy mineral water. This lake is a popular scenic spot and rest assured you will feel rejuvenated and fresh as the morning dew once you unwind yourself in the beautiful locales of this hill station. The hill station is famous for its unique flora and fauna.
Eravikulam National Park
Eravikulam National Park Spread across an area of 97 sq. kms, the park exhibits the breathtaking natural splendor of rolling grasslands and exotic flowers. This wildlife sanctuary is known for the endangered mountain goat of South India and the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrious). The most unique inhabitant of the park is the Atlas moth, which is the largest of its kind in the world. It is situated on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the north. It was declared as a sanctuary in 1975. Some little known animals such as Nilgiri langur, Stripe-necked Mongoose, Indian Porcupine, Nilgiri Marten, small clawed otter, Ruddy Mongoose, and Funambulus sublineatus|Dusky striped squirrel are also found. June, July, and August are the monsoon months and this is the period when the region receives maximum rainfall while April and May are the hottest months.
Kolukkumalai
Kolukkumalai close to Kerala border is at a diatance of 35 kms from Munnar. Located at an altitude of 8,000 ft above the mean sea level, the hill is worth visiting. With a lovely atmosphere and abounded in tea plantations is a fine spot. Some of the most flavorsome teas in the market are produced at Kolukkumalai. This tea plantation is "the world's highest grown tea." Elephants, guar, sambar and sloth bear can be seen in the adjacent jungles. The best time to visit the estate is between December and May.
