Khajjiar Hill Station
Khajjiar is a small hill station in Chamba District and popularly known as the Switzerland of India. It is about 6500 ft. (1981m) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and snowy peaks can be seen in the distance. Khajjiar is a beautiful & charming retreat that makes an ideal day excursion or even an overnight visit.

Khajjiar is a small picturesque saucer-shaped plateau surrounded by dense pine and deodar forests, and is one of
the 160 places throughout the world to have been designated Mini Switzerland. This emerald opening amidst the woods has a small pond at its center. There are two floating islands in the middle of the pond; they are sometimes hidden from view by the tall grass that grows on them.
A truly spectacular spot, Khajjiar provides opportunities to unravel the mystery of the Himalayas and plays host to the picnickers. It is an important picnic spot whose quiet environs beacon the tourists traveling between Dalhousie and Chamba. The stopover at Khajjiar is a welcome break for the weary tourists. On 07-07-1992, Mr. Willy T. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in India, brought Khajjiar on the world tourism map by christening it "Mini Switzerland". . Khajjiar is among the 160 locations in the world that bear topographical resemblance with Switzerland.
Khajjiar is exquisitely nestled down in the foothills of the imposing Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas. The dish-shaped Khajjiar provides panoramic and breathtaking perspective to visitors. Snow capped mountains ads beauty to this scenic place. There is a walk way built around the ground for walkers to go around the ground and horses are also available for a ride covering the ground. There are all ranges of hotels, restaurants available in this small town. The main attraction is the green Saucer shaped ground surrounded by thick deodar trees.
Khajjiar was a part of the erstwhile state of the Rajput rulers of Chamba. In the 6th century, it served as the capital of the Chamba rulers. Thereafter, it was taken over by the Mughals, from which the rule passed over to various Sikh kingdoms. Finally, British control was established over Khajiar and with the independence, the hill station became a part of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The picturesque beauty of the place, along with its nine-hole golf course, has given a boost of its travel and tourism industry.
There is plenty of wild life in the forest and the area has been brought under wild life sanctuary. There is a 9 hole golf ground here but is no more in regular use. The lake has been taken up for improvement. It is known as the Gulmarg of Himachal Pradesh.
Khajjiar is a tiny tourist resort in Chamba about 24 kms from Dalhousie at an altitude of 6,500 ft. above sea level.

By Air:
Gaggal in Kangra, ju st 18 kilometers from Khajjiar is the nearest airport.
By Rail:
The closest railway station from here is located at a distance of 80 kilometers at Pathankot. Many major railway stations in India are linked up with this station.

By Road:
Cities like Chandigarh, Amritsar, Delhi and Manali can all be accessed with ease from Khajjiar and the road transport in Khajjiar is excellent and it is very well connected.
