He was the last important Sufi of Chishti Order from Delhi. The village of Chirag Delhi grew up around this sacred tomb and was earlier surrounded by broken rectangular walls with gateways on each side, built by Muhammad Bin Tughlaq.
Around 1274, at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh Hazrat Nasir Uddin Mahmud Chiragh Dehlavi was born. His father Syed Yahya, died when he was only nine years of age. Nazir Uddin received his early education from Maulana Abdul Karim Sherwani, and later continued it, with Maulana Iftikhar Uddin Gilani.

A square chamber supported on twelve pillars and enclosed by a dome with turrets on every corner is the main tomb of the pious saint. The dome is a plastered one and resembles that of Mubarak Shah's tomb rising from an octagonal drum. In the dargah complex several additions have been made over time.
