Nandavan Tapovanan
Tapovan is located on an altitude of 4463m / 14640ft above sea level and is an ideal location for the tourists looking for peace and adventure. An arduous trek along the Gangotri Glacier leads to the picturesque Nandanvan - Tapovan is base camp for Shivlinga peak in Uttrakhand hills. A trek across the snout of the Gangotri Glacier leads to Tapovan, renowned for its beautiful meadows, which encircle the base of the Shivling Peak. One can also have a nice view of Bhagirathi peaks from Tapovan Meadow. Every year this place has been visited by thousands of tourist including foreigners for adventure activity like mountaineering & trekking.
Narendarnagar
At an altitude of 1,129 mts. 14 kms. away from Muni-ki-Reti lies this capital of the former king of Garhwal. On the main Rishikesh-Gangotri-Yamunotri route, Narendra Nagar offers a fine view of the Ganga and the beautiful Doon Valley. The sun set view from here is particularly attractive. It was the headquarter of the District Tehri Garhwal until a few years ago, now the New Tehri Town is the headquarter. The palace of the Tehri Raja, is situated amidst a forest. Hotels and the P.W.D. Inspection House offer accommodation.
Tehri
Tehri is located at the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangna rivers and also is the site of a giant hydel project. Tehri is the former capital of the Tehri Garhwal locality. Wonderful area to get a photogenic view of the surrounding peaks. Tehri is well connected by roads, excellent bus services catering to regions like Gangotri and Uttarkashi. The distance between Gangotri is about 167 kms and can be covered by road. Tehri can be reached on the Mussoorie route.
Uttara Kashi
Situated at an elevation of 1,150 mts. above sea level on the bank of river Bhagirathi, Uttarkashi is an important pilgrimage centre. Vishwanath temple, Ekadash Rudra temple, Gyaneshwar temple and Kuteti Devi Temple are some of the important temples worth visiting around Uttarkashi. Nehru Institute of Mountaineering is also present near by. People visit Uttarkashi to take a holy dip in Bhagirathi along with the image of their village deity every year during the 'Magh Mela'.
