Dayara Bugyal
High Altitude Meadow is the meaning of Bugyal in the local language. One of the most beautiful places in Uttaranchal situated at an elevation ranging from 10,000-12,000 ft. It provides excellent & one of the best ski slopes in India spread over an area of 28 sqkms during winter.
From here the view of Himalayas is breathtaking. There is a small lake (Barnala Tal) in the area. The road to Dayara Bugyal branches off near Bhatwari a place on Uttarkashi Gangaotri road about 28kms. from Uttarkashi. A motorable road connects Bhatwari (27 kms. from Uttarkashi) with Raithal village, from where follows a 6 kms. long trek to Dayara. The famous Sheshnag Temple enroute is an attraction of the trek. From Dayara, one can also trek down to Dodi Tal (30 kms.). During winters, Dayara provides excellent ski slopes over an area of 28 sq.kms.
Gaumukh
Gaumukh glacier is the famous site nearby, which is at an altitude of 4200 m above sea level and is at a distance of 18 km from Gangotri uphill. It is the geographical origin of the Ganges. At this place the river Ganges is known as the Bhagirathi. The source of the Bhagirathi River and the snout of the Gangotri Glacier and. Pilgrims trek upto the sacred spot on foot or on ponies to take a holy dip in the ice-cold water and to the temple of Bhairavanth at Bhaironghati, (10 km.) Pilgrlims also trek to Nandanvan (6km) and Kedartal (18km) from Gangotri.
Kedar Tal
An enhancing and is one of the loveliest Himalayan lakes, Kedartal at a height of 4901m above sea level against the splendid backdrop of mighty Thalaiyasagar peak. The over flow of the gushes through rocky terrain as the Kedar Ganga, melting the Bhagirathi at Gangotri. Accessible through a rough mountain trail, it is the base camp for trekking to surrounding peaks. Nestling among the Bhrigupanth, Thaley Sagar and Jogin group of peaks, this large emerald lake is born of the melting snow of the Kedar glacier. The trek to Kedartal needs a local guide.
Nachiketa Tal
A small temple along the lake and lovely surroundings are an attraction around Gangotri is Nachiketa Tal. Lake surrounded by thick dense forests and a mind blowing view of the mountain peaks, the Nachiketa Tal has a small little temple as the backdrop is a picturesque and splendid beauty of a crystal.
Nachiketa, son of Saint Uddalak after whom the lake is named. After a 3-km long trek from Chaurangi Khal, 29 kms away from Uttarkashi, Nachiketa Tal can be reached. No accommodation available around the place. There are two option for accommodation either staying at Chaurangi Khal or get back to Uttarkashi.
