Alka Puri
The source of Alaknanda Alka Puri is situated in Chamoli District of Uttaranchal and is 15 km from Badrinath. Alaknanda River has its origin here from the glacier snouts of Bhagirath- Kharak and Satopanth glaciers. Satopanth, a triangular lake, is located at a height of 4402 m above the sea level and is one of the sources of the Alakananda River. Alka Puri is also believed to be the abode of Kuber, Yakshas and Gandharvas. Mana Village is located nearby.
Brahma Kapal
About three kilometers from Badrinath, Brahma Kapal is a flat platform on the bank of river Alaknanda where Hindus perform propitiating rites for their deceased ancestors. It is the place where Hindus pay homage to their deceased ancestors.Mata Murty Temple dedicated to the mother of Lord Vishnu is on the right bank of the river. Sesh Netra Temple, Urvashi Temple and Charanpaduka are nearby.
Hemkund Sahib
Hemkund the holy lake near by the Valley of Flowers is considered an important pilgrimage of the Sikhs and Hindus. The sacred Sikh Shrine is located along its shores. The Lakshman Temple, the brother of Lord Rama-Lakshman performed his penance.
Joshimath
Joshimath, the winter home of Shri Badrinathji is situated on the slopes above the confluence of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga. Joshimath is one of the four 'maths' established by Adi Guru Shankaracharya.
Mana Village
On the Indo-Tibetan border this is the last village of India and is 3 kms from Badrinath. Mana village was set up by the Indo-Mongolian tribe, population of the village is 200 people. People of many unknown tribes come and live here 6 months in a year. As soon as the gates of Badrinath open, they come here and as soon as they close, they go down to the plains where they live for the rest of the year. In this way they live a dual family life and they are very attached to their culture and traditions. People here are very hardworking and industrious. A small scale industry of woollen clothes is run by them wherein the women knit and weave sweaters, carpets, etc.
Neelkanth
'Garhwal Queen' a Pyramidical-shaped snowy peak towering above Badrinath. Neelkanth is known for its scenic beauty and also for its religious qualities. Located bordering the mountain ranges of Nar-Narayan Neelkanth is a complete portrayal of natural hill heaven. Ardent natural and scenic lovers will make their visit to a large number all through the year. Also, Neelkanth attracts most number of devotees to its place every year.
