PANCHAMUKHI ANJANEYA SWAMY TEMPLE
Lord Hanuman holds a unique place among the Hindu deities. The traditional Hindu believes that Lord Hanuman is living today in His identical body and when this Kalpa ends and another begins. Panchamukhi Anjaneya Swamy Temple is a highly revered shrine, situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, near Mantralaya. The highlight here is a five-faced idol of Lord Hanuman.
According to legends, it is the spot where Sri Raghavendra Swamy performed penance for 12 years in a cave. As a result, Lord Panchamukhi – an incarnation of Lord Hanuman amalgamating within him the avatars of Varaha, Garuda, Anjaneya, Narasimha and Hayagreeva – appeared before him.
Every Face of Sri Panchamukha Hanuman has significance as mentioned. 1st face Sri Hanuman faces east. He grants purity of mind and success. 2nd face The Narasimha faces south. He grants victory and fearlessness. 3rd face The west facing Garuda removes black magic and poisons.
4th face The north facing Varaha, showers prosperity, wealth. 5th face The Hayagriva Mukha faces the Sky. But since we cannot see it, it is usually tilted and shown above Hanumans face. Hayagriva gives Knowledge and good children.
The annual festival in august which is attended by the large number of pilgrims, including even Lingayats from the Bombay the Nizam's Dominions and even Mysore .
