SHILPARAMAM
Presenting a completely different look when compared to the famous cyber towers, Shilparamam a village situated in the neighborhood of the ultra modern HITECH city of Hyderabad.
In the year 1992, sprawling over 65 acres of land Shilparamam, a crafts village in the hi-tech hub city, the state government established this platform. A scenic ambience of tradition, cultural heritage and for promotion and preservation of Indian arts and crafts, to motivate the artisans, is the perfect platform.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh for the development of an idyllic rural setting this land was granted to the South Zone Cultural Center.
Shilparamam is sculpted with woodwork, jewellry, cloths and local crafts of each region of the country giving the lush and serene environment. Shilparamam is set amidst gardens, cascading waterfalls and natural rock heights, showcasing a plethora of artistic ethos. Rustic aesthetics-brick structures with thatched roof, walls decorated with traditional rangoli motifs-create an authentic village locale is a eye catching view on modern landscape architecture.
Various workshop and training programs is conducted in the village Shilparamam, to motivate and encourage the works of the rural artisans is the motive behind setting a crafts village. The master works of tribal people is being applauded by the urban dwellers. Shilparamam organised Crafts Training Centre that arranges a series of workshops, short term classes and training camps, in this pursuit.
In March annual festivals of arts and crafts are held, when artisans are invited from all over the country. Direct contact between the craftsmen and the buyers and also helps in educating people on the value of their rich cultural heritage is made by this event.
Dussehra in October and Sankrant Sandadi festival of harvest in January, cultural activities are also held during these ten days.
Shilparamam is poised to redefine the true legacy of India as it is land of culture where traditions and arts have attained the culminating point. The renaissance of performing arts (dance & music) is being promoted and preserved by State Government.
Through out the year the village holds lots of cultural activities in theater which covering Tholu Bommalata, Burra Katha, Butta Bommalu, Puli Vesham and puppetry.
The stillness of Shilparamam is deceptive after the festive season, is a perfect time for connoisseurs and students to watch artisans at work where each dwelling master craftsmen are at work. As one can enroll as a student at a nominal fee learning crafts like, mask making, terra-cotta and Banjara needlecraft. To meet the requirements of art works to be made on special orders some artisans have settled in the village on a permanent basis. They are the toy makers who make wooden toys dyed in natural colors and finished with lac, wood and stone carvers, potters and metal casting craftsmen.
Textiles ranging from Tangail, Sambhalpur, Paithni, Kashmiri to Kanjeevaram, Dharmavaram, Tanjavur, Madurai, Peddapuram, Bandar, Guntur and other sarees. It also has salwaar kamiz, ghagras, kurta, carpets, etc. Relishing the ethnic food found at Shilparamam. Return home with utmost happiness, a bagful of handicrafts, and fond memories is assured by Shilparamum
Shilparamam is anticipated to be set in Vizag and Tirupathi. The idea is to promote and preserve the art forms and handicrafts by rendering a platform to the villagers.
