HUSSAIN SAGAR LAKE
Hussain Sagar the largest man made lakes is in Hyderabad, India built by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali in 1562, during the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. Hussain Sagar Lake is popularly known as the Tank Bund, a major spot of tourist attractions.
It is a lake of 24 kilometres built on a tributary of the River Musi to meet the water and irrigation needs of the city. It connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
A large monolithic statue of the Gautam Buddha in the middle of the lake which was erected in 1992. 16 mtr. tall, 350 tonne (approx.) monolithic Buddha statue is situated in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake, silhouetted against the sunset. Totally, it is made of white granite, the largest statues in all over the world.
Hussain Sagar the beautiful and placid lake located in the heart of the City, 33 statues of famous people of Andhra Pradesh erected by former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao on the bank is the main attraction of the lake.
With numerous parks, recreation spots, temples, statuary, and a host of other tourists attractions, it has emerged as the most sought after tourist destination in the City. Missamma temple, the sprawling green Indira Park, Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Ramakrishna Mission are some interesting spots in the area of lower tank bund beside of tank bund.
The Secunderabad Sailing Club, Sanjeevaiah park, Hotel Marriott and Hazrat Saidani Ma Saheba tomb are on the northern side of the lake and Andhra Pradesh Secretariat buildings the aesthetically built, NTR Memorial, Lumbini Park, Prasads IMAX, Hyderabad Boat Club, Sri Venkateswara Temple (Birla Mandir) and Telugu Thalli Flyover are on the Southern side, adding the beauty to the lake. Along the western banks Necklace road connects these two sides.
In the lake boat club and rides are provided by the A.P. tourism department. A musical fountain and well landscaped garden featured in Lumbini Park are the attracting spots. Passing round the Hussain Sagar Lake Necklace road has been opened to public. A place to hang out, "Eat Street", has been built on the banks of the lake.
A good place to hangout in the evenings for the young as well as the old at NTR Gardens on the Necklace road. After the 10 day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on Ananta Chaturdashi annual immersion of Lord Ganesh idols, in this lake.
It is a sprawling artificial lake that holds water perenially. Every Sunday cultural programmes are conducted by the Department of culture in the evenings and admission is free for the public.
Another brilliant aspect of the Hussain Sagar Lake at Hyderabad is that an entire caboodle of water sports are conducted there that includes yachting and boating which attracts a fairly large number of adventure- seekers.
