| The Legislative Assembly of Hyderabad is an impressive building located adjoining the picturesque Public Gardens, a massive statue of Mahatma Gandhi in a sitting posture is erected at the entrance park to the Assembly. It was built out of funds raised by citizens of Old Hyderabad State, on occasion of the 40th birthday of Nizam Mehboob Ali Khan in 1905. Completed in 1913, it initially functioned as the Town Hall. |

| The building was originally the Hyderabad State Town hall which is housed in white domed buildings. |

| This majestic white edifice was designed by commissioned architects who fused Rajasthani and Persian architecture. It houses the 295 seat Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. |

| New additions have been made of late to accommodate the legislative offices of Ministers and political parties. |

| It was inaugurated in 1985 by the then Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. The architecture resembles that of the Old Building so closely that it is difficult to distinguish between the two buildings. |

| The new structure for the Legislative Assembly of Hyderabad was conceptualized by Dr. M Chenna Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He laid the foundation stone on 19th March, 1980. |

| A 22 feet tall bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi, in a meditating position, stands on a 6 feet pedestal in the Assembly building precincts. The words 'My Life is My Message' are etched on the pedestal. |

| The statue was unveiled by the Governor , Dr. C. Rangarajan on 15th August, 1998 to motivate legislators to follow the Mahatma's ideals. |
